Last week, Arvest Bank kicked off the celebration for the opening of its newest branch located on 3184 E. Sunshine.  They’ve got a full calendar of fun events for the next several weeks.  For a complete list of these events, click here.  This week, the branch will continue the Support Your School event.  Read on to learn about the school we are highlighting this week and how you can help raise money for that school and possibly win a new iPad while doing so.

This week’s featured school is Pittman Elementary.  Led by Principal Laura Batson, Pittman Elementary prides itself as a neighborhood school where parents and teachers know each other by name. Approximately 320 students attend the school, many of them coming from multiple generations of Pittman families. Pittman’s belief in excellence is shown right in their mission statement—“Pittman Elementary School community is committed to excellence in learning. We show what we know by being the best we can be.” Principal Batson stated “community pride is evident at Pittman, as is parent involvement.”

Pittman has a 21:1 student-teacher ratio that allows for individual attention and support for each student.  And, Pittman’s community doesn’t stop in the classroom. Before and after school programs such as YMCA Prime Time, cup stacking, scouts, mad science, music, and art opportunities provide students with enriching and fun activities for time outside of the classroom. While in the classroom, they are strongly focused on technology. For example, their eMINTS program provides one computer to every two students in fifth grade classrooms. Pittman’s Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores are consistently above state and district averages and they were in Missouri’s Top 10 in communication arts in 2002 and 2003 and a District Accomplished school in 2002 and 2005.

Pittman Elementary is located at 2934 E Bennett St and their phone number is (417) 523-4700.  Learn more about Pittman at springfieldpublicschoolsmo.org/pittman.
